Springfield Bus Stop Consolidation
PVTA is working to improve service for our riders in Springfield by better balancing the distances between bus stops and the places people need to go. Today there are 814 bus stops in Springfield, which is many more than are needed. Some are as close together as 400 feet—about 10 bus lengths!
Better stop spacing means riders will get where they are going faster. It also means our streets will be safer for pedestrians, bicyclists, and motor vehicles because there will be fewer places where buses must pull into/out of traffic. There will also be more curb space for businesses that need on-street parking.
While 5 of 6 riders will not be affected (because we are retaining the stops with high ridership), we want to make sure that we keep the stops that are most important to seniors, people with disabilities, and others for whom walking is difficult.
